Boujaad Berber rugs are woven in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, originally by a Berber tribe from the town of Boujaad. Their patterns and colors evoke vintage rugs. This authenticity is also reflected in the fact that Boujaad rugs are rural, more rustic compared to their Beni Ouarain counterparts. The colors, highly diverse, sometimes appear faded and prematurely aged to give them a patina reminiscent of antique rugs. Yet, they are indeed new rugs, recognizable by their designs—a subtle blend of washed-out color blocks and traditional Berber signs and motifs. Boujaad rugs serve as a kind of dictionary of Berber symbols and motifs, easily distinguishable from one rug to another. They embody the imagination of the women who weave them, steeped in an ancient artisanal and cultural tradition.

How to care for a Berber wool rug?
Berber rugs are surprisingly easy to maintain. Initially, these historically rich pieces were not primarily intended for decoration but served as household covers or insulation. The exceptional quality of their weaving ensures remarkable longevity for Berber rugs.
In terms of maintenance, shake and beat your rug to remove dust. You can vacuum it, but be careful not to damage the wool. We recommend doing this only once a week and using the gentlest vacuum setting. Vacuum in the direction of the weave. If you can’t shake them, turn them over for a few hours once a month to allow deeper dust to settle out.
For stains, blot them immediately with a damp cloth; often, this is sufficient. Otherwise, use Marseille soap diluted in plenty of water and gently shampoo with your fingers until the stain disappears, then rinse with clear water.
