There are journeys that brighten your life, and then there are those that leave a mark forever...

Hello everyone! We’re Thomas and Elisa: lovers of travel, encounters, nature, adventures, and challenges. Lovers in life and lovers of life above all!

In the lively alleys of the medina, we were instantly captivated by the incredible blend of tradition and modernity in craftsmanship. The colors, the materials, the beautiful craftsmanship – we were charmed!

It felt like each piece told a unique story, filled with passion and conveyed emotion.
That’s where the spark ignited. Both entrepreneurs at heart, it took us only a few days to decide on a venture that would showcase artisanal products from around the world through our travels! The idea of bringing some of this exotic magic into our daily lives, and then into yours.

What a wonderful way to blend our desire to explore the world with adding a professional dimension to our adventurous spirits. Without truly realizing the magnitude this frenzy would take in our lives, we embarked on this crazy adventure… the creation of Les Globes Chineurs!

Today, we present to you our first selection exclusively focused on Berber carpets. Through our travels and encounters, we aim to offer you a collection rich in a variety of items carefully chosen for their quality and unique character. Our goal is to help you create an interior that reflects only you.

We are passionate about promoting these traditional crafts, supporting artisans in living off their art, and unveiling hidden gems from around the world to a wider audience.

In short, we are Thomas & Elisa,
AKA Les Globes Chineurs, your creators of favorite finds!

The life of our weavers

Moroccan weavers who make Berber carpets have ancestral craftsmanship passed down from mother to daughter. We are currently working with a cooperative of women consisting of 66 weavers, each having their own loom at home. They have the freedom to allocate as much time as they wish to their work, whether doing it alone or in collaboration. For some, it’s a full-time job, while for others, it’s a complement to other activities such as agriculture, which is traditionally more associated with the male household members.

An ancestral, ethical, and sustainable craftsmanship

The quality of the wool is essential for creating durable and soft carpets. Before weaving begins, the wool yarns are dyed using natural colors. The weavers choose from dye plants known as “tinctorial plants,” which contain natural pigments in their leaves, flowers, roots, etc. They may also use spices like cumin or turmeric!

Traditionally, Berber carpets are hand-woven on vertical wooden looms. The patterns and designs are often passed down through generations, but weavers also have the freedom to let their imagination roam, creating unique patterns and expressing their creativity. Weaving Berber carpets can take weeks or even months, depending on the size, complexity of the pattern, and weaving density. The time devoted to each piece varies greatly among weavers.

Once weaving is complete, the carpets undergo essential finishing steps. This includes brushing to remove impurities, washing in river water, drying, and braiding or knotting the fringes.

Each Berber carpet is unique and often features symbols and traditional motifs that hold deep cultural significance for Berber tribes. These motifs can tell stories, represent historical or religious events, elements of nature, or symbolize spiritual values.
